I teach graduate level courses in science communication at the University of California at San Francisco. These courses give students an introduction to research in communication, education, and cognitive science on how to effectively engage the public, β€œthe science of science communication.” They also focus on practical strategies for creating talks, exhibits, demonstrations, and other mediums of public engagement. Field trips, projects, and guest lectures provide an opportunity for students to learn hands-on, and to meet practitioners who research and create experiences for the public.

I also lecture at San Francisco State University through the Center for Cellular Construction, teach workshops on science communication, and have started several internship programs to train graduate students in biological, engineering, and computer sciences how to design public engagement experiences.
